Artifacts: The Collection
Celebrating the sport heritage of British Columbia, our collection is the foundation of the museum’s activities. The collection is comprised of over 21,000 artifacts and 23,000 archival items spanning over 100 years of sport heritage in the province. The collection is based on over 310 Honoured Members and 54 Honoured Teams that have been inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
- Olympic torches
- Medals won by British Columbian athletes and teams
- Uniforms, trophies, flags and coins
- Over 5,000 documents, 750 books and 23,000 photographs, representing over 50 sports and major international events including Olympic and Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games, national and provincial championships and more.
The BCSHFM shares BC’s sporting history from the centuries old hand games and canoe races of our First Nations to BC’s biggest moments in sport, including the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, 1973 Canada Games, and the 1994 Commonwealth Games, the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games, and now the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Approximately 66% of the collection (artifact and archival collections) is items related to our inducted members and teams. The remainder of the collection relates to British Columbia’s most important sporting activities and events. We collect items from athletes, teams and builders of sport – individuals who have brought honour to the province, on an ongoing basis.
