Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the best age to host a birthday party at the BC Sports Hall of Fame?
A: The majority of the parties we host are for children between the ages of 6 and 12. We do offer them for younger or older kids, but the majority of our interactives and tours are most appropriate for kids in the 6 – 12 age range.
Q: When can I host a birthday party at the BC Sports Hall of Fame?
A: We typically host birthday parties on weekends and statutory holidays. We would be happy to host a mid-week party if it suits your schedule as well. We have three time slots for you to choose from: 10am to noon, 1pm to 3pm, and 4pm to 6pm.
Q: How much does a birthday party at the BC Sports Hall of Fame cost?
A: The cost for a birthday party is $250 plus tax. This includes admission for 15 children and 5 adults, the exclusive use of the birthday party room for two hours, your event host, access to the Participation Zone, and the optional scavenger hunt and tour. We ask for a non-refundable $100 deposit at the time of booking, which can be paid in person at the front desk of the BC Sports Hall of Fame or over the phone (604-687-5520) by Visa or MasterCard.
Q: What happens if I bring more than the 15 children and 5 adults included in the party package?
A: Additional guests are admitted at the regular admission fee ($15 plus tax for adults, $12 plus tax for youth and children). If you bring ten or more additional guests, we will charge you the group rate of $8.50 plus tax per person.
Please note that while regular admission to the BC Sports Hall of Fame for children age 5 and under is free, this does not apply to birthday parties. Younger children are included in your party’s totals.
Also note that we include five adults to ensure that there is adequate supervision for your party. Please choose four adults plus yourself that will help with the kids and contribute to the success of your party.
Q: What happens at a typical party?
A: For the sake of an example, let’s say you book the 1pm to 3pm time slot.
You can arrive 30 minutes early to set up for your party, so you can come around 12:30 and bring whatever food and decorations you have planned for your party.
We find that it’s best to let the kids spend the first 30-40 minutes of the party running off energy in the Participation Zone. Also, chances are some children will arrive late due to scheduling conflicts, parking, traffic, etc.
We offer an optional tour and scavenger hunt. A good time to do this is at 1:40, once all the kids have arrived and run off some energy. Please let us know if the birthday child has any particular interests (hockey, soccer, etc.) and we will do our best to cater the tour to the interests of the group. Our guides all have teaching experience, and are pretty good at reading the kids’ attention spans. Be sure to bring your camera on the tour, and get a picture of your group standing on the 2010 Olympic Podium! It is easiest to start the scavenger hunt right after finishing the tour; we have several scavenger hunts available to ensure that the one your children do is at their age level.
Once they complete their scavenger hunt is a good time to have food; around 2:00. If you do food and cake after the tour / scavenger hunt, once the kids are done eating they can return to the Participation Zone and play until the end of the party at 3:00.
Note that while this is how a typical party runs, we are happy to adjust this plan to best suit your family. If you would like a different schedule, please just let us know and we would be very happy to accommodate it.
Also please note that if you choose the 4pm to 6pm time slot, the museum will close to the public at 5pm and you will have the museum to yourselves for the last hour of your party.
Q: Can we stay in the museum after the party if we want to?
A: Yes, you can stay at the museum for as long as you like after your party has concluded, or until the museum closes. However, we will need you to vacate the birthday party room so that we can prepare it for the next party.
Q: What interactives are available for the kids at my birthday party to play with?
A: Note that what is available in the museum changes regularly due to maintenance and upgrades, and we cannot guarantee that any interactive item will be present at your party. Please ask when you are booking if you have questions about interactive availability.
Q: How many staff members supervise birthday parties?
A: You will have one designated birthday party host helping you run your birthday party. We include five adults with the birthday party package to ensure that you have adequate supervision.
Q: What should I bring to my party?
A: The party room is decorated with posters and banners from local sports teams, but you may bring a few personal decorations if you like. Plastic tablecloths help to make clean-up easy in case of spills. Helium balloons are not allowed in BC Place Stadium.
You may also bring whatever you would like to serve for food, plus everything that you need to serve it. This includes plates, cutlery, a knife to cut the cake, candles, and a lighter or matches. There is a water dispenser and paper cups in the room already. There is a fridge and freezer on site. Many parents just bring snack foods, such as cookies, crackers and cheese, or fruit and veggie platters. You can also order pizza and have it delivered to your party.
Goody bags are available from us for $6.00 plus tax per child, or you may bring your own.
We have a cart to help you bring items to and from your car; please ask about it when you arrive if you would like to use it.
Q: Where is the best place to park my car?
The closest place to park is the metered parking along Beatty Street, or you can check this map of other close parking areas.
Please note that parking may be more limited on days when there is a Canucks, Whitecaps, or Lions game, so if your party is on a game day, please allow yourself some extra time, or take public transit.
Q: Can I come see the facility before booking my party?
A: Absolutely! Please let the front desk staff member know when you arrive that you are interested in booking a birthday party, and they will have someone show you the birthday party space and answer any questions that you may have. It is best to call ahead to let us know you will be visiting.
Q: How far in advance should I call to book a birthday party?
A: Your best chance of getting your preferred date and time is to call us as far in advance as possible. If your schedule is flexible, we still recommend booking at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance.
Q: What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule my party?
A: If you need to reschedule, give us a call at 604-687-5520 and we will do our best to book your party for a different date. Please give us a call as soon as you know you need to reschedule your party, as dates may be limited.
If you need to cancel, you can call us to do that as well, but please note that birthday party deposits are non-refundable.
